Nathalie started triathlon when she moved in Perth (WA) in 2007-08. Doing a triathlon was one of the “things to do before my 30’s”. Without any swimming/riding or running background she joined the UWA TriClub and learnt to swim, ride and run.
In 2008 and 2009 she pursued triathlon training which led her to her first half ironman in May 2009 in Busselton. In the meantime Nathalie discovered adventure racing and with that paddling. 2010 has been dedicated to adventure racing and expedition racing training. Paddling became one of Nathalie’s strongest leg in adventure racing. She also started paddling racing in 2010 -2011.
In May 2010, Nathalie participated to her first XPD expedition race in Cairns and even if her team did not finish, she loved it and since has the goal of finishing the race.
The Ultimate XC is a one-of-a-kind race. During a long weekend, this event brings together athletes from all over the world to be challenged while playing outdoors.
The most difficult racing challenges await them: on the first day, paddlers will undertake 67 km on lakes and rivers. On the second day, they will enter a full-on 58 km trail running race . At last, the weekend ends beautifully on a breathtaking 100 km mountain bike course. Some participants go for the "à la carte" weekend, taking part in one or more of the three challenges. The canoe-kayak race offers two distances, 21 km on Lake Tremblant or 47 km on rivers and lakes. Better yet, you may feel up to the challenge for our 13, 21, 35 or 58 km trail running courses. Others will opt only for the mountain biking race on a safe and fully marked course.
Day 1: 67km paddle - Placed 3rd overall - Time = 7h10min.
Nat was only 10min behind 1st place.
Day 2: 58km trail run - Time = 10h30
Day 3: 100km mountain bike - Placed 7th solo - time = 11h15.

Aug 20-21 2011 I believe the very essence of adventure racing is captured with phrases such as “teamwork”, “wilderness navigation, "route-finding strategy”, and “overcoming physical and mental limits”.These are just words on a page until you get out there and experience it for yourself.Believe me, there is no greater feeling of satisfaction (and yes, relief!) when you cross the finish line in a classic adventure race.

Congratulations to Team RaidPulse.com for finishing as top male team, and for taking the overall win. The lead changed quite a bit during the race, but hot on RaidPulse’s back tires for the last ¼ of the race were Adrian Makurat taking top solo position, and Team GetOutThere / Adrenaline Rush finishing as second male team. All three finished within 30 seconds of each other – what a photo finish! Team Running Free was not far behind as top dog in the Coed Category, while Biofueled put in a solid performance to take the top team in the Female Category. Special recognition to Nathalie Long, the top finishing female solo, who was leading the race along with Benoit Letourneau for the first few hours.
Congrats to all teams and solos for taking on this challenge and pushing your limits. It was great to see so many familiar and new faces, young and experienced, competitive and out-for-fun. Tell your friends, share your photos and stories, and let’s keep AR growing and improving!
